BHU annual fest Spandan
The first week of Feb, 2010 was devoted to Spandan… Spandan, the Youth Festival of Banaras Hindu University, is known to be the most awaited programme for the students of the university every year. Students strive for getting a chance to perform in it, and feel immensely lucky if they got one.
Also, others who don’t participate, or can not, feel a longing to see others’ performances by being spectators and viewers. And why not, when Spandan has every necessary aspect to captivate each and every student studying in BHU. But the things were quite different this year. It seemed the mega event had lost its charm.
The reasons behind this may be none other than new rules and regulations. The university’s high command had imposed these restrictions on the big event. And there are many reasons too. This was hot news, which the kith and kin of the university was talking again and again. Nobody liked new rules, whether students, teachers or other staff members.
BHU annual fest: New regulations
First of all, they have cut short the mega event to half. They invited for performance only first place holders of faculty level completion – Sanskriti. Besides, prior to this year, first and second place holders both were supposed to be the qualifiers for the University level annual fest.
Further, they also imposed restriction on songs and dance performance on popular music. Another of such new rule and regulations set for the mega event was this one. However, the administration was imposing all such rules in name of students’ benefits. But the diminished rate of strength of students attending the event this year shows a different picture. They must be feeling disenchantment with their favorite and own programme.
Spandan cut short to half
Moreover, how restricting students from enjoying their own event is beneficial for them? And, why are they binding them in the rules and regulations, which are not viable in the 21st century? Only God knows…who else??? Many are saying even that it’s better to have no such an event any more…
Finally, with such a wave of dissatisfaction, Spandan ends with this week. Well, every story must have a beginning, a mid and an end. Well, every story ends with a hope and every hope provides a new beginning. Let’s hope for better for the Spandan, which will come again next year.
