They use the smoke of special herbs
Currently, there are roughly 50-60 thousand Himba people living in Kunain. The women of Himba tribe keep their body fresh by boiling special herbs in water instead of bathing. So that they do not stink. With the fragrance of this herb, their body smells good even after never taking a bath.
Apply lotion made from animal fat on body
Women of this tribe use special lotions to protect their skin from the sun. These lotions are prepared from a solution of animal fat and hematite. Their skin turns red due to hematite dust. This special lotion also protects them from insect bites. These women are also known as Red Men.
Himba women offers sex to guests
Himba women is entitled to offer free sex to her husband’s guests. The practice means the husband offers her wife to his guest to to honor them. She sleeps with the guest in the room, while her husband sleeps in another room or outside.
She also has to give her friends to her husband when they visit her, but this happens rarely. This tradition is assumed to have its own “benefits” in the community. The practice reduces jealousy and fosters relationships among people, Himba people say.
