Manmandir Observatory in Varanasi

The Manmandir Observatory, situated at Manmandir Ghat of river Ganga, looks as big and old as other structures of ancient Banaras. This observatory was constructed by the remarkable monarch of Jaipur Maharaja Sewai Jai Singh. Nonetheless, he was the person behind the foundation of many cities, including Jaipur, in India.

Just entering the gate, we need to go upstairs to see the contents of this amazing architecture. There is a corridor giving the experience of a palace of the Mughal era. Also, you find walls of the corridor painted with one of the finest examples of Mughal-era painting. The old building comprises many corridors, yards, and stairs.

Manmandir Observatory in Varanasi: A visit

Major attraction of this word unique structure is the well-constructed solar clock on the roof of the observatory. In fact, this man-made clock works by nature as it is based on the sun. Due to sunlight, shadow falling on the structure depicts the time and this solar time-set gives very accurate result. There is much more to see at this observatory. From the balconies of the observatory, we see both the banks of the river Ganga. Nevertheless, this one is the most eye-catching view from here. From this height, seeing boats in the river and people roaming around the ghats is another wonderful experience. The observatory, referred as Jantar Mantar of Varanasi, is a worth visit place for people living in Banaras and around and also for tourists coming from around the world.
