The six tallest African tribes
Hi, and welcome to another video shedding light on the various tribes of Africa. In this video, we look at the top six tallest African tribes. Welcome and remember to like this video and subscribe to Afroartista Films.
1. Dinka
The Dinka tribe of South Sudan is Africa’s tallest tribe. They are also the tallest ethnicity in the whole world. According to research, the average height of Dinka people is 6.3 feet. The Dinka produced Manute Bol, a former NBA player who was listed as one of the tallest in the history of the NBA with a height listed as 7 ft. 7 with his son, also a basketball player, Bol Bol, standing at a height of 7’2. Though there has been a lot of speculation about the cause of the tall height of the Dinka people, the most common explanation is their nutrition, which is said to consist of primary milk and organic food.
2. Maasai.
According to some reports, the Maasai tribe from Kenya is considered one of the tallest people in the world, with an average height of 6’2 feet. Traditionally, the Maasai diet consists of raw beef and milk from the many cattle they keep. Scientists have suggested a link between their impressive height and their protein-rich diet. They also seem taller because of their world-famous high jumps.
3. Nuer.
The Nuer people are a Nilotic ethnic group concentrated in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan. They also live in the Ethiopian region of Gambella. Alongside their neighbours, the Dinka, they are one of the tallest tribes in Africa and the world. The average height for the tribe stands at an impressive 6 feet.
4. Tutsi.
The Tutsi are an ethnic group from the African Great Lakes region. They are Bantu-speaking and the second largest of the three main ethnic groups in Rwanda and Burundi. Their average height is 5 feet 11 inches, although individuals have been recorded as being taller than 7 feet. So why are they so tall? The ancestors of the Tutsi were mainly cattle herders, which means that their diet contained lots of protein and calcium. Also, many Tutsi carry large amounts of Nilotic DNA, and this fact is true for many Nilotic tribes; they are taller than average.
5. Anuak
The Anuak are a Luo Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting parts of Ethiopia and South Sudan. The Anuak belong to the larger Luo family group. It is the third tallest ethnic group in Africa, with the average male height being 5’10. Individuals have been recorded from this tribe with towering heights of above 7 feet.
6. Somali.
The Somalis are an East-Cushitic ethnic group native to the Horn of Africa who share a common ancestry, culture, and history. They form one of the largest ethnic groups on the African continent and cover one of the most expansive landmasses inhabited by a single ethnic group on the continent. They occupy the countries of Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti. They are among the tallest African people, with the average Somali standing at 5’9 feet. A big chunk of them are over 6 feet tall, with slender bodies and narrow features. There is speculation that their height comes from their protein-rich foods, since most are nomadic cattle herders, as well as the hot climate that characterizes their ancestral lands.
